NOPE! Not at all!
The inspiration for the post, is coming directly from being told that my skills as a physical therapist are the same as personal trainers in the wellness realm. I wish two years ago, I had the confidence to educate them, so we’re doing it now.
PT and personal trainers do have some overlapping skills in the wellness realm. I am a PT who meets with a personal trainer weekly
They are both individually beneficial.
A physical therapist working in wellness can develop exercise routines, instruct correct technique, cue and guide patrons, educate community on healthy lifestyle.
A personal trainer can develop exercise routines, instruct correct technique, cue and guide patrons, educate community on healthy lifestyle.
The one large difference, is individualization vs. generalization. A personal trainer can identify exercises that are appropriate for a general population or goal. A physical therapist can examine and evaluate individuals and their movement patterns identifying specific limitations. Implimenting treatment plans including exercise to address limitations.
Both have their benefits and their place in health and wellness!
