20+ Easy Elf On the Shelf Ideas For Kid At Heart Adults

A silly Christmas tradition to start with your sweetie is Adult Elf on the Shelf. The rules are similar to when you have children. I work in an office and my fiancé works from home, it gives us a little bit of time every day to get the elf set up.

I get up early a little bit earlier for work for 10 days for these. Each one took me less than 10 minutes to set up. My fiancé does his at lunch while I’m at work. We both had a ton of fun coming up with ideas and counter pranking each other. Some of the ideas took planning, however many did not. My fiancé did all of his ideas, without the assistance of Pinterest, which I think is an amazing feat these days.

This is my favorite Christmas tradition. Everyone now, looks forward to the snapchats of what the Elf is up to. Our Elf is named Arwen.

These ideas are purely for adults. Not all of them are kid friendly, here are our adult elf on the shelf ideas:

Beware The Elf Gets Serious Real Quick

The elf with the pocket knife in my night stand was how I found the elf after the flour message.

Things I Needed

A lot of the ideas I see when searching for ideas, involving using other children’s toys. Being creative with the Elf does get a little bit harder without a plethora era of barbie or action figure supplies already. But, there are still plenty of cute ways to celebrate with items you have on hand.

We used mostly things we already had at home only really buying the elf and bread.

But I also used:

  • Tape
  • Wrapping paper
  • Ginger
  • Bread
  • Paper
  • Marshmellows
  • Sugar
  • Deck of cards
  • Grater
  • Christmas stuffed animals
  • Mugs
  • Xbox controller
  • Scissors
  • Toilet paper
  • Hershey kisses
  • Tin foil

Other Ideas

Ideas I’ve seen but haven’t used include

  • the elf peeing into mini cups with yellow gaterade
  • the elf fishing for goldfish
  • the elf floating on a raft
  • the elf swinging on a popsiscle stick swing
  • the elf decorating all the items in the fridge (wrapping them in christmas paper)

The ideas are endless, and I have basically scoured blogs for kids to make this a couples tradition.

The Elf Has Returned 2023

Stay toned for future shenanigans. I think my fiancé is consulting Pinterest this year.

Our elf did make it back for year two. Arwen arrived with a new friend. The deer was a gift to my honey, he kept saying it was cute when we were walking through Target. My sweetie thinks the elf makes messes, so hopefully this softened the blow that they were back 🙂
